报告题目：Characterization of individual progression of type-2 diabetes
摘要：Type-2 diabetes (T2D) is a burdensome disease covering a range of diverse pathological mechanisms with a common consequence: the increase in blood glucose concentration or, equivalently, glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c). One promising way towards prevention and treatment of T2D is the understanding of individual predictors and mechanisms of its progression. Within the European prospective DIRECT study, we have evaluated predictors and determinants of estimated HbA1c progression considering several metabolic parameters, including indexes of insulin and glucose sensitivity derived via in-house quantitative methods. The analysis suggested that individuals with faster increase in HbA1c are those with lower baseline glucose or insulin sensitivity or with stronger longitudinal decrease of these parameters.
Roberto Bizzotto is a Researcher in the National Research Council (CNR) in Padua, Italy. He holds a Master Degree and a Ph.D. in Bioengineering, from the University of Padua. His current research focuses on mathematical modeling applied to the study of Diabetes. Dr. Bizzotto also developed and applied methods for the study of metabolism, collaborates with international Clinical Centers and Pharmaceutical Companies.
